How to verify ownership of your website for Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools

Please follow the instructions below carefully so as to upload the correct code to Section 6 of your website. 

NOTE: In order to verify ownership of your website with Google and Bing, it must first be published live on the Internet.

To verify ownership of your website you will first need to register with Google Search Console and / or Bing Webmaster Tools.

Please note: When adding your domain name to Google Search Console or Bing Webmaster Tools, you should include the 'www.' For example, http://www.myholidayvilla.com or https://www.myholidayvilla.com, which one you choose will depend on whether you have HTTPS enabled on your PromoteMyPlace website. 

Then once you have an account with them, follow the instruction provided in the links below to verify your website with Google and / or Bing:

Google will ask to choose the Domain or URL Prefix method. Select URL Prefix so you can enter the full URL into the field provided:

THE RECOMMENDED OPTION TO VERIFY WEBSITE OWNERSHIP IS VIA THE META TAG

1. HTML Tag Verification - GOOGLE

1 - On the first page you're taken to, you'll see a red Add a property button. Click it.
2 - In the field provided, enter your website domain name and then click Add
3 - On the next page, select the option - HTML tag

Please note: If the HTML tag option does not display, you will need to visit the Settings page for your website and click Ownership verification to add the alternate verification methods as outlined in Google's instructions here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/9008080?hl=en

The code will look like this:

Copy the full code provided - as above.

4 - Now go back to your PromoteMyPlace account and head into Section 6 - Verify Website Ownership - in the Google field provided, paste the code and click Save

5 - Finally, go back to your Google Search Console account and click the red Verify button underneath where you copied the meta tag code

To verify ownership using an HTML tag for Google, choose the HTML tag method on the verification details page for your site and follow the instructions shown.

2. META Tag Verification - BING

1 - Log into your Bing Webmaster Tools account
2 - Click Add a Site

3 - Enter your website URL and click Add (you can ignore the sitemap part at this stage as you can add it later)

4 - Click ADD again

5 - Go down to Option 2 - Copy and paste a <meta> tag in your default webpage

6 - Select the code in the grey box and copy it, then head back to your PromoteMyPlace account

7 - Paste the code into the Bing field provided and click Save

8 - Go back to your Bing account and click the Verify button

NB: If you have decided not to purchase your own domain name and are continuing to use a domain name with the promotemyplace.com extension e.g. myholidaycottage.promotemyplace.com you will need to verify website ownership via your Google Analytics instead.
